Abstract

This study examines the perceived effectiveness of online learning tools and resources in enhancing the learning of biology among senior secondary school students in Zamfara State. Employing a descriptive survey research design, data were collected through a questionnaire titled "Perceived Effectiveness of Online Learning Tools and Resources Questionnaire" (PEOLTRQ). The PEOLTRQ was validated, and its reliability was assessed using Cronbach's Alpha, which resulted in reliability coefficient of .88. A total of 382 senior secondary school students were sampled for the study from the four education zones. Mean and standard deviation were used to analyzed the data collected to address the three research questions raised. The findings of the study revealed that, students hold favourable perceptions concerning the utilization of online tools and resources in biology learning. These tools were also perceived to contribute to their academic achievement in the subject. Furthermore, the research identified various obstacles hindering students from using online tools and resources for learning biology in Zamfara State. One notable obstacle is the restriction on the use of personal technological devices such as smartphones and tablets during school hours. To enhance learning of biology among students, the study recommended that, teachers should integrate online learning tools in their instructions, the Ministry of Education should establish policies and partnerships that will ensure access to technological gadgets and connectivity for both students and biology teachers. More so, students should improve in their digital skills and active engagement.
